The South African Social Security Agency–SASSA plays a very significant role in offering financial support to the vulnerable. As of 2025, SASSA continues to offer different grants to cater to the needs of fellow South Africans facing financial hurdles. Here are the top eight grants for payments that every South African should know.

It is considered to be a type of livelihood security grant that provides money to parents or caregivers who look after a child under the age of 18. By 2025, the amount of this grant varies according to the child’s age but is intended to facilitate the satisfaction of basic needs of food, clothing, and education.
2. Old Age Pension Grant
This will be called the “Old Age Pension Grant,” or simply the Older Person’s Grant, for furnishing any South African aged 60 and above meeting the income demand. In essence, this supports the elderly who can no longer support themselves through working, retirement, or disability, and generally it is seen as one of the most comprehensive safety nets for senior citizens in South Africa.
3. Disability Grant
This aids South Africans who can’t support themselves financial-y because they have disabilities. This includes a medical test to confirm their disabled condition and their inability to work in order to be proven. Monthly money is what gives beneficiaries the support in terms of living and financial healthcare.
4. Establish the Care Grant
Establish the Care Grant funded parents who have taken in legal responsibilities for caring for a specific child over and above adoption. With this Grant, the child is well catered for their needs from food and shelter to education thus life is brought close to the child even though he or she lost his/her parent. This grant is essential for any child who cannot continue staying with her/his biological family.
5. Sui-Generis Aid
Sui-Generis Aid is an added grant meant for those already covered by the Disability Grant or the Old Age Pension, but they require 24-hour support due to their condition. This is mainly for those who are not in a position to do their daily work and need another person to perform the duties. Through this, the cost of the services to the caregiver is provided.
